Hapoel Sports is going to sponsor a day of sports competition on Sunday, May 11, at Layhill Village Local Park in Silver Spring. There's going to be major league baseball and USA Junior Olympic sports competitions. Sports involved will be baseball, soccer, tennis, basketball and track and field. The event is going to be broken up by age groups, with those who finish in the top three in each sports qualifying for a regional event. Those in that event can qualify later on for a national final. For baseball, it will be the MLB Pitch, Hit and Run competition, where children go through a variety of baseball skills. Kids in four separate age groups (7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14, age to be determined by how old a child is as of July 17) will go in the MLB event. The Junior Olympics are going to have three different age groups (8-9, 10-11, 12-13, with the age to be set as of Aug. 31). The event begins at 10 a.m. and goes until 3 p.m.
